Just 4 months ago, most Spanish companies would have found it unfeasible to work remotely. Today, not only is it a reality, but 83% of participants in a survey conducted by ESADE on the impact of teleworking believe that companies are technologically prepared. What's more, 7 out of 10 respondents believe that companies will opt for teleworking once the confinement period is over and 66% would like to take advantage of this opportunity to telework 1 or 2 days a week.

COVID19 has forced an accelerated technological adaptation. But we cannot yet call this massive teleworking, based on bringing the rules of presentialism to remote work, smartworking. There is a need for a cultural transformation that allows us to achieve greater efficiency and a better balance between personal and professional life. In other words, it must allow us to respond to the challenges of the future and the needs of our employees at the same time.

When not approached in a comprehensive manner, working from home becomes a bad substitute for working in the office, with long working hours, greater control, low productivity, difficulty in reconciling personal and professional space, inefficient time management and accumulated fatigue.

We don't know if there will be a new outbreak of COVID19.... but if it appears again, let's get ready. We no longer have an excuse. We can't say we've been caught by surprise.

Smart working gives companies the opportunity to move towards a more efficient and more agile organizational model in every way. It is a new way of working, providing flexibility, agility and efficiency to the organization and allowing a better use of talent. From an economic point of view, it is a type of collaboration that also allows to reduce infrastructure costs in an organization, and a fantastic formula to attract talent from different collaborators, without the location of that person being a limit. Smart working proposes a more efficient management of people and seeks not only to increase productivity, but also the satisfaction of talent through a better work-life balance. According to the Employer Brand Research 2019 report, 55% of workers indicate the latter as a decisive factor when choosing to work in a company.

And what are the pillars of smart working?

Smartworking is a radically new way of organizing work based on 3 basic pillars:

  • A new culture based on a new paradigm of Leadership
  • New organizational models based on self-managed teams, oriented to results and to maximize the fit between the needs of the organization and the talent and interest of the employees.
  • Innovation in people management and teamwork based on new technologies, redesign of physical and virtual spaces.

Many companies carry out the transformation focusing mainly on the external domains (processes, technologies, organization) and put less emphasis on the internal transformation (culture and leadership skills). At Gaia Balance we believe that transformation should consider all dimensions, and especially do a deep work internally.

They attribute to Einstein the phrase "You cannot solve a problem with the same level of consciousness that created it".

This is the great challenge, to transform consciousness in order to find new solutions.
